Cleaner Bus Rides by 2031

Rapid Bus has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to introduce 1,600 electric buses across Penang between 2026 and 2031. The plan, outlined by Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook, will roll out the vehicles in phases, replacing older diesel fleets.

The electric fleet promises quieter streets, zero tailpipe emissions and lower operating costs, while supporting Malaysia’s climate targets. Funding will come from federal grants and private partnerships, with the first batch expected on the road by late 2026.

Penang commuters will soon enjoy smoother, greener rides as the new electric buses replace noisy diesel models, while local businesses may benefit from reduced pollution and potential job opportunities in the EV sector.
